NATIONAL POETRY DAY
POET VISIT
KATE WAKELING
Kate Wakeling is a poet and she studied
music at Cambridge University.
Award-winning poet, Kate Wakeling, visited St Joseph’s on Thursday 4th October to help us celebrate National Poetry Day. Kate spent the day
touring the school sharing her poems along with tips on writing poetry with all
our children. Her engaging and interactive recitals made it a very happy and
memorable day for our school.
NATIONAL POETRY DAY COMPETITION
We had our own
poetry competition to celebrate. Children in Years 3 to 6 wrote poetry on the
National Poetry Day theme of ‘Change’. The best poem from each class was
selected and we held a poetry recital assembly at the end of the day inviting
Kate Wakeling to be the judge. She awarded a signed copy of ‘Moon Juice’ to the
poems that came in first, second and third place.
Well done to the
winners!
Take a moment
to read these fabulous poems!

Recycling
Mum says there is
climate change
The polar caps
are melting
It should be
getting cooler now
But it’s
absolutely sweltering
Mum says we have to
recycle now
To try to make a
change
To try and get back to
when
The weather wasn’t so
strange
If only my Mum remembered
To separate all the plastic
There would be less climate change
And the World would be fantastic!
