Author Visit – Helen Peters

Wednesday 12th June

Year 1, Year 2, Year 3, Year 4 & Year 5

In order to support literacy and creativity in school we are delighted to be able to host celebrated local author, Helen Peters, who will be coming into school to meet our children on Wednesday 12th June.

Helen Peters, is an award-winning author of ‘Friends and Traitors’, The Secret Hen House Theatre’ trilogy, and the Jasmine Green animal rescue series. Her books have been nominated for the Carnegie Medal, shortlisted for the Waterstones Children’s Book Prize, and named as the independent Bookshops Children’s Book of the Month and The Times Children’s Book of the Week.

Helen will be visiting St Joseph’s to share her stories about adventure, bravery, family and friendship and talk about being a writer. She will be signing pre-ordered books after the event! For more information on Helen Peters and her books please go to the following website https://www.helenpetersbooks.com/

If you would like to support this event and pre-order a book/books for your child to have signed, please log-on to ParentPay.

Make sure to place your orders by Monday 3rd June to avoid disappointment!

We are, indeed, very privileged to have Helen Peters visit our school and we hope that you will support this event.

Library News - Digital Books

 Library News

We have an excellent resource in our school library to support our commitment to improving literacy and promoting reading for pleasure.

Our library aims to provide children with a diverse, current and inspiring range of books to support their learning experience. This year our library has earned over £1,500 worth of free books from our successful Scholastic Book Fair, as well as, being the lucky recipient of 500 books gifted to us by the BBC 500 Words Competition.

We are keen to concentrate our resources on providing a well-stocked library for the children to be able to access for school and home learning. With this in mind, we will not be continuing to provide a digital book collection (eBooks). However, our school library catalogue, the Reading Cloud, can be viewed and pupils are encouraged to use this resource to help with research on books and authors and to write reviews on books they have read.

To access the Reading Cloud and to find out more about the library, please go to the News tab on the school website https://st-josephs.islington.sch.uk/. Each child has a username and password which has been either given to them or sent home by their class teacher.
