The Mayor came along with Cllr Valerie Bossman-Quarshie (Reading Champion) and Cllr Una O'Halloran (Lead member for Libraries) to launch an exciting new digital reading game for children in Years 5 & 6. It has been developed by The Reading Agency in partnership with Get Islington Reading for children in Years 5 & 6.

Karen Napier, CEO of The Reading Agency introduced The Reading Adventure Game and Tony Brown from Islington Libraries walked the children through how the game works.

Visit https://readingagency.org.uk/readingadventure for more information.

St Joseph's was delighted to be able to host the launch of the Reading Adventure Game and help support the borough in encouraging the pleasure of reading.

We were awarded by ISLINGTON EDUCATION LIBRARY SERVICE with the School Library Association

GOLD

School Library Award

Children in Year 4

Well done to all our staff, parents and children who help support and make our library a very special place for all to enjoy. To promote reading for pleasure is our goal.

The Mayor of Islington

 The Mayor

We welcomed The Worshipful the Mayor of Islington to St Joseph’s today.

He came to launch the

SUMMER READING CHALLENGE

The children gave him a standing ovation as he walked through the school on his way to our library.

The Mayor was very impressed with our library, which is at the heart of the school and provides an inspiring and calm place for our children to read. He particularly liked our cosy book nook under-the-stairs with cushions galore. Perfect to escape into a book!

The children gave his Worship a guided tour or our library and found out that his favourite book is ‘Oliver Twist’.

The Mayor spoke to the children about the importance of reading and especially to keep reading over the Summer.
