SUMMER READING CHALLENGE

The Summer Reading Challenge 2022

In order to support literacy in school we are delighted to inform you that we have organised school assemblies to launch a special science-themed Summer Reading Challenge, which aims to encourage children, aged 4-11 to include reading as part of their summer holiday activities.

We have invited an Islington librarian to come into school to tell the children all about this nationwide initiative run by The Reading Agency. Local author of Polish heritage, Ewa Jozefkowicz, will also be joining us to inspire our children to read over the summer. She will be sharing her book ‘The Cooking Club Detectives’, (8+) which celebrates the importance of community, family and friends - it includes recipes and has a fascinating mystery at its heart. Ewa will be talking about the ingredients of a good mystery story and how to create believable characters. Signed copies with a dedicated message for each child will be available for purchase on ParentPay at the discounted price of £5.

The Summer Reading Challenge not only helps maintain and even improve reading levels but promotes reading as a fun activity. It starts on Saturday 9th July at your local library.

To find out how to join in go to the Summer Reading Challenge website: https://summerreadingchallenge.org.uk/ or pop into your local library. Not sure where your local library is? To find out go to https://www.gov.uk/local-library-services.
