World Book Day and Book Fair

St Joseph’s World Book Day and Book Fair
Thursday 7^th March 2024

St Joseph’s World Book Day 2024 will take place on Thursday 7th March.

On the 7th of March we would like the children to come into school dressed as a ‘word’. Your child may come to school dressed as an adjective such as “colourful” and wear their rainbow clothes; other adjectives may include: contagious, sparkly, spotty or horrifying. Alternatively, they may come to school as a noun and dress as “Christmas” in their best Christmas jumper or “Princess” in their favourite costume. There are lots of examples online and we encourage you to be as creative as you can be. We would also like all children to redesign an alternative book cover for their favourite books illustrating it with colourful images. There will be £5 book vouchers for our Book Fair to be won for the best book covers.

To celebrate World Book Day, we will also be hosting a Book Fair, with hundreds of new children’s books to browse and buy. With prices starting from only £2.99, there’s sure to be a book for everyone.

WORLD BOOK DAY & BOOK FAIR Coming Soon!

St Joseph’s World Book Day and Book Fair
Thursday 2nd March 2023

St Joseph’s World Book Day 2023 will take place on Thursday 2nd March.

We have given each child a wooden spoon to decorate as their favourite book character.  On the 2^nd of March we would like the children to come into school wearing their favourite pyjamas, onesies or comfy clothes (to represent the idea of cosying up with a book!) with their decorated spoons and if possible a copy of the book the character is from.  The plan is to share books across the school in a variety of ways.

We would also like the children to bring in a photo of them reading – this can be in their normal reading place such as in a comfy chair or in an unusual place such as in the park.

In light of the tragic earthquake that has recently devastated Turkey and Syria we would like each child to contribute a £1.  The money collected will be donated to DEC (Disasters Emergency Committee).

To celebrate World Book Day, we will also be hosting a Book Fair, with hundreds of new children’s books to browse and buy. With prices starting from only £2.99, there’s sure to be a book for everyone.

World Book Day

WORLD BOOK DAY

World Book Day at St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School and Nursery was a fabulous celebration. This year to tie-in with our local history week in school the children were encouraged to DRESS UP as their favourite historical figure.

Both children and staff came into school in an impressive array of costumes. It was truly amazing to see such creativity with many of the costumes home-made. Throughout the day assemblies and parades were held to give the children an opportunity to share their costumes and stories of the diverse and inspirational historical figures such as Amelia Earhart, Albert Einstein, Rosa Parks, Julius Caesar, Florence Nightingale, and the flamboyant Frida Kahlo.

Our week-long Book Fair helped us celebrate 25 years of World Book Day and gave the children an opportunity to use their £1 World Book Day token to get a £1 off a book of their choice at the Fair or to swap it for a World Book Day book.

“Sharing the stories of historical people was an inspirational way to celebrate World Book Day and get budding bookworms excited about reading,” said Mrs Rooney, School Librarian.

Thrilling News!!

World Book Day

This year we celebrated World Book Day on Friday 9^th March due to the adverse weather conditions.

World Book Day Dress Up was a roaring success with all children and staff dressing up as their favourite book characters. It was a chance for creativity to shine and many costumes were home-made.

We had a costume parade as part of our World Book Day Assembly and every child received a World Book Day Token which they could use to get a special World Book Day Book from the Book Fair.

The child with the best costume from each class was awarded a golden ticket to be exchanged for a book of their choice. They were all so brilliant so it was hard to choose.

Congratulations to the following golden ticket winners: Diego, Fryderyk, Joe, Evie, Dominic, Isabella-Mia, Ella-Grace, Reece, William, Anna, Celino, Frankie, Maisha, Nina, Leo, and Georgine.

Share A Story was the theme of this year’s World Book Day and the children were encouraged throughout the day to share a story anytime and anywhere. Special stickers were given to the children as a reward.

Nursery and Reception classes visited Years 5 and 6 classes where they shared stories with their buddies.

We invited one of our local bookshops, Pickled Pepper Books, to arrange a Book Fair for the week and we transformed our library into a mini-bookshop with a fantastic selection of children’s books. We also had the wonderful World Book Day books for which the children could exchange their World Book Day Tokens; a book for every child.

Together we raised more than £700 and earned credit to use on new books for our school library. We will be able to choose from the latest releases so that we keep up-to-date with children’s books.

Thank you to everyone for helping to make it such a fantastic day!
