Now Showing: The Thieves of Ostia

Did you know that Romans wiped their bottoms with a sponge on a stick?

Did you know that some really rich Romans had slaves just to do their hair?

Did you know that Romans would eat stuffed dormice and ostrich tongues?

All this and more is waiting to be seen on the pages of The Thieves of Ostia by Caroline Lawrence!

Year 4 have been learning about the Romans, so the first book of Caroline Lawrence's huge SEVENTEEN book series is a great story to read for a few extra facts! It's a great set of books and it was even made into a BBC TV series. Go to romanmysteries.com to find out more!

The Roman Mysteries books are great fun and teach a lot about life in the Roman empire from several points of view. Today we talked about what the printing press has done to make books cheap and available for us, and what is meant to be a slave or a freedman.

Year 4 were horrified by the snails eaten for Flavia's birthday party and desperate to hear why drops of blood are leading to Jonathan's front door.

Sorry Year 4! You'll have to wait for next week...

Flavia, Jonathan, Nubia and Lupus: our heroes!
