The Mayor

welcomed The Worshipful the Mayor of Islington to St Joseph’s today.
He
came to launch the
SUMMER READING CHALLENGE
The
children gave him a standing ovation as he walked through the school on his way
to our library.
The Mayor was very impressed with our library, which is at the heart of the school and provides an inspiring and calm place for our children to read. He particularly liked our cosy book nook under-the-stairs with cushions galore. Perfect to escape into a book!
The children gave his Worship a guided tour or our library
and found out that his favourite book is ‘Oliver Twist’.
The Mayor spoke to the children about the importance of
reading and especially to keep reading over the Summer.

SUMMER READING CHALLENGE  |
The Summer Reading Challenge is back and it’s all about Wild World Heroes celebrating nature and how to look after our world. It is starting in a public library near you on 10th July and encourages children aged 4-11 to read 6 books over the holidays.

This week we talked to the children about how to join in and how important it is to keep reading over the summer.
Our children are really excited to join in and we will be sending home soon details of how to join in with special starter packs.
Every child who joins in will be awarded a certificate and medal when we are back in the autumn.
